Middle School Construction Update
Perry Local Schools is preparing for the next major milestone in its long-term facilities master plan with the development of a new middle school at the Hartwick Park site. The project represents a continued investment in safe, modern learning spaces and follows the recent completion of three new elementary schools across the district.
“I am proud of the progress our district has made with these facility improvements,” said Superintendent Nathan Stutz. “We remain committed to engaging our community every step of the way as we create a home for our middle school students that inspires learning and growth.”
As planning has progressed, the district has selected Perry Middle School as the name of the new building. The name reflects a unified identity for students and aligns with the district and Perry High School. This approach supports consistency in school identity and middle school athletics, strengthening the Perry Panther tradition.
“Middle school marks the first time our students come together from our three elementary schools as one Perry community,” said Stutz. “This creates a perfect opportunity to establish a strong foundation of pride, unity, and belonging as Perry Panthers.”
All design phases for the new middle school, which will replace Edison Middle School and Pfeiffer Intermediate School, remain on schedule. Once design work is complete, the project will transition to the construction phase, with early site preparation, including initial groundwork, scheduled to begin in the coming months. Residents can expect to see visible changes to the site, with tree clearing beginning as early as February, pending favorable weather conditions. Major building construction will begin this summer and continue through 2028, with a grand opening planned for the 2028-29 school year.
Community members are invited to join Perry Local Schools, along with partners BSHM Architects and Hammond Construction, for an informational community meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the Pfeiffer Intermediate School Library. Attendees will have the opportunity to review design concepts, learn more about the intent of the design, and view interior and exterior renderings. The presentation will also include updates on the construction timeline, funding, early site work, construction logistics, and site separation.
